Moth Gate

I was commissioned to paint moths on this gate & gate post!

And these are the species I was asked to paint;

Emperor moth male & female, Large Emerald, Scarce Silver-Lines, Lime Hawk, Bulrush Wainscot, Convovulus Hawk moth, Privet Hawk moth, Pebble Prominent, and Scarce Burnished Brass. 

I used enamel paints, which I have used before but not for this kind of detailed paintings. I always thought that enamel paints dry very slowly and they are pain because I can't just wash the brushes with water and soap! But I really enjoyed it and I think it looks nice. I wonder if anybody would like me to paint moths on a narrow boat!?!?!

門に蛾を描く依頼がありました！

イギリスの蛾のネットワークの中では、結構有名な先生です。

選ばれた蛾は、エンペラーモス（雄雌）、オオシロオビアオシャク、コブガ科の一種、スズメガの一種、オオチャバネヨトウ（の一種）、スズメガの一種（朝顔を餌とする蛾）、エゾコエビガラスズメ、シャチホコガの一種、そして、オオキンウワバです。

エナメルは使ったことがありますが、このような細かい絵を塗ったのは初めてでした。

いつも乾くのが遅くて、筆も手も普通に水洗いできない、というのであまり好きではなかったけれど、結構いい感じに楽しく塗れました。

「ナローボートに蛾を！」なんて依頼はないでしょうか？

スズメガの一種（日本で近いのはヒサゴスズメあたりでしょうか）、シャクガの一種（近いのはヨツメヒメシャク？）、ホソアオバヤガ、ヒトリガの一種、ウスズミカレハ、です。

Mural work

I have been busy working on 2 murals in Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry.

Great Year 6 kids from Aldermoor Farm Primary School helped me painting them, and they are going to be installed on the wall of a community Centre (LIFE Centre) which is located right next to the school.

One is War Memorial mural, and the other is nature mural.

1 mural is made up with 3 boards and as they were laid flat on the ground, I couldn't get the whole mural in one photo! 

I'll put the pictures up when they are on the wall, but this is roughly how they look!

Meanwhile...

This time last year I was involved with another mural work for Sowe Valley Project (Warwickshire Wildlife Trust).

FINALLY the boards were installed this week!!!!!

This one is my nature board.

And I did some sessions at the Aldermoor Farm Primary School, and some base painting (the swans and the tree) so community groups / schools can add their handprints!!

The under-paths are located under Allard Way, between Alan Higgs Centre and Lindfield Park.

ここ３週間ほど、コベントリー、ストークアルダモアで壁画の仕事でした。小学校６年生（ぐらい）の子供たちの手を借りて、２つできあがりました。隣にあるコミュニティセンターの壁に貼付けられる予定なんで、そのときにちゃんとした写真を載せます。

ついでに、ちょうど去年の今頃塗った壁画が、やっとインストールされたようです！

くぐり抜け式通路の両側に、いろんなグループや学校で作られた壁画があります。

カワセミやカワウソのが、わたし一人で塗った壁画。

その他、学校で手伝ったものや、一部をわたしが塗ったものもあります。（白鳥と木。手形は幼稚園の子たちや、コミュニティグループの人々のもの）

Gourds

The weather in 2012 was terrible. It wasn't a good year for wildlife, nor a good year for gourds!

My parents-in-law managed to grow some, but not as many as previous years.

So while they were on the holiday, I added extra in their gourds basket!

They even got a Golden Gourd! 

They are made of air drying clay, painted with acrylic paint, and varnished. 

Hope 2013 is a better year for gourds so that this basket will be plentiful...along with those never-rotting gourds. 

２０１２年の天気は非常に悪かったです。野生の生き物にとっても、おもちゃかぼちゃにとっても、悪い年でした。

わたしの義理の両親は、毎年豊作のおもちゃかぼちゃを玄関に飾ってますが、今年は不況。

というわけで、彼らが旅行中に増やしておきました！

金色のひょうたんまでも。

紙粘土、アクリル絵の具、ニス、でできてます。

腐ることの無いおもちゃかぼちゃとともに、２０１３年はこのカゴがいっぱいになるといいですね。

We now have; Privet Hawkmoth, Death's head hawkmoth, The Passenger, Crimson Speckled, Garden Tiger, Lilac Beauty, Cinnabar, Flame Brocade, Green-silver lines, Pyrausta purpuralis, Pyrausta aurata, Scarlet Tiger, Magpie, Elephant Hawkmoth, Merveille du jour, Blood Vein, Eyed Hawkmoth, Laced Border, Lime speck pug, Netted pug, Light Orange Underwing, Orange Underwing, White Spotted Pinion, Ghost moth, Green Carpet, Streamer, Barred Yellow, Flame Carpet, White Pinion Spotted, Four Spotted Footman, Peppered moth, Clifden Nonpareil, Dark Crimson Underwing, Rosy Footman, Red necked footman, Chinese Character, Scarce Hook-tip, Dusky Hook-tip, Barred Hook-tip.

And then, Burnet moth caterpillar, Elephant Hawkmoth caterpillar and Privet Hawkmoth caterpillar.

ヒトリガ、イチモジエダシャク、辰砂蛾（？）、火炎錦蛾（？）、アオスジアオリンガ、メイガの２種、シタベニヒトリ（？）、スグリシロエダシャク、ベニスズメ、Dichonia aprilina　（ヤガ科）、静脈蛾、スズメガの一種、フチグロシロヒメシャク、ナミシャクの二種、カバシャク、クロフカバシャク、ニレキリガ、コウモリガの一種？、Colostygia pectinataria、Anticlea derivata、Cidaria fulvata、トビスジコナミシャク、フタホシシロエダシャク、ヨツボシホソバ、オオシモフリエダシャク、ムラサキシタバ、シタバガの一種、ベニヘリコケガ、Atolmis rubricollis、Cilix glaucata、ウスオビカギガ、オビカギバ、Watsonalla cultraria　（カギバガ科の一種）、などなど。

幼虫はマダラガ、ベニスズメ、エゾコエビガラスズメがあります。

Mural work 2

I went back to Ashby C of E Primary School to finish off the rest of the mural - this time it's on the fence! It was quite hard to paint as each plank was overlapping the next one... 

It's hard to explain but I had to paint more than just the front surface of the fence in order to make it look good  & straight etc. (See 3rd photo). 

Anyway, the lovely teachers at the school wanted a street scene here so kids can play with it. So I did a bit of research on Ashby town centre. I hope people will recognise some of the shops... like the fish & chips and Bulls Head Inn!

I'm very pleased with it, especially as I was a bit worried about how it was going to turn out. I really didn't want to mess this up! I did a detailed chalk drawing first, which is something I don't normally do. Glad I did!

When I was comfortable with the finished result, I added a hint of smiles (for me!). 

Look, there's Danger Mouse!! And my Rebel cat, on the windowsill at the house numbered 23!!!!! (Check out my other obsession here: myfavouritenumber-23)

またアッシュビー・チャーチオブイングランド小学校に行き、今度はフェンスを塗ってきました。これがなかなか難しく（説明するのも難しい）、一枚一枚ちょっとだけ重なってるため、前も横も塗らないと横から見たとき汚い、ということで、結構時間がかかった。（３枚目の写真参考）

先生たちから「子供が遊べるように、街の景色を」とリクエストがあったので、アッシュビーの街を調べ、なるべくそこからの建物などを使いました。分かってくれる人がいるといいな。

これは失敗するんじゃないかと心配だったので、だいたい塗り終わった後、安心の印に遊び心を足してみた。デンジャーマウス（ロンドンのベイカーストリートの郵便受けの中に住んでいる、古いアニメのキャラクター）と、有名な猫、レベル。それに加えて家の番号は２３！（２３が好きなんです。こんなブログも作ってしまいました。myfavouritenumber-23)
